What's Your Healthy Weight Range Based on Your Height?

Published on

Your healthy weight is a range, not a single number. It depends on your body composition, not just what the scale says.

Your healthy weight isn't a single number—it's a range. And it depends more on your body composition than on the scale.

The WHO Range

For adults, the WHO 'normal' weight range corresponds to a BMI between 18.5 and 24.9. Multiply by height in meters squared to get the range in kg.

HeightHealthy range
1.55 m44.5 - 59.8 kg
1.60 m47.4 - 63.7 kg
1.65 m50.4 - 67.8 kg
1.70 m53.5 - 71.9 kg
1.75 m56.7 - 76.2 kg
1.80 m59.9 - 80.7 kg
1.85 m63.3 - 85.2 kg
1.90 m66.8 - 89.9 kg

Adjustments BMI Doesn't Capture

  • Athletes: you can be above the range with low body fat.
  • Older adults: the ideal range shifts slightly upward (22–27) for protection against sarcopenia and falls.
  • Asian ethnicity: cardiometabolic risk appears at lower BMI (23–27 is already functional 'overweight').

Use BMI as a starting reference, but always combine it with waist circumference and body fat percentage for a complete picture.
